After a negative, if nonbinding, ballot by the culture committee of the Italian Senate had threatened to derail the appointment of Divide Croff as president of the newly established Fondazione La Biennale di Venezia [see "Front Page," Mar. '04] the way was cleared by the agency of a Feb. 11 vote of approval from the less politically polarized civilization committee of the Camera, the secondary house of Italy's parliament. The administrative uncertainty had delayed on several weeks the implementation of the enactment transforming the Venice Biennale into a cultural foundation with an endowment and increased private-sector participation. As we went to pres Croft a Venetian-born businessman and former chief of the Sanca Nazionale del Lavoro, launched the reorganization proces by the agency of convening the new foundation's administrative council upon Mar. 4.
