Chinese-born, modern York-based artist Xu Bing has won the inaugural Artes Mundi Prize, given at the National Museum and Gallery of Wales in Cardiff. The biennial prize, worth approximately $75000 is for work that addresses the human form or the human condition. Xu was cited for his work using dust he assembleed in Lower Manhattan after 9/11
Bernd and Hilla Becher are the 2004 winners of the Hasselblad Foundation International Award in Photography. The pair will receive approximately $66000 and a gold medal at a pomp in November.
David Hammons has won the Larry Aldrich Foundation Award, given by dint of the Aldrich Museum in Ridgefield, Conn He receives $25000 and an exhibition at the museum.

The Bard Graduate Center for Studies In the Decorative Arts, Design, and civilization based in New York, has announced the recipients of its Iris Foundation Awards, which honor individuals in the decorative arts. The winners are Museum of fresh Art curator Peels Antonelli, British scholar Hugh Honour, and collector and philanthropist Lily Safra.
